ECA sharing and gallery at Lightforms in Hudson NY

This was an in-person sharing of artwork and experiences from the 2024 ECA challenge

ECA with the Brightmoor Makers at Detroit Community Schools (July 2024 & July 2025)

ECA collaborated with Sunbridge International Collaborative and the Brightmoor Makers for summer 2024 and 2025. We began with local consciousness nature observation, and collaborated with Earthstream Tiny Homes for a global consciousness exercise around the materials used in building a tiny house. In 2024 we created a tiny house information pamphlet and survey. Another group of students imagined into what could happen in the park across the street from the school in 2024 and in 2025 we took two of those imaginations (a pond and a swing-set) and brought them into reality through action.

A sketch of the pond imagination (I was surprised how similar the end result of the pond was as we did not reference this sketch and different students created the pond this year). The reasons why Caiyla who sketched this thought we should create a pond were: visually pleasing; beneficial to wildlife; adds to the peaceful environment; brings people to the park.

ECA with Cal Poly RS3020 class on Global Regenerative Systems (September 2024)

ECA was invited to adapt the ECA challenge to weave into the coursework of the Global Regenerative Systems class at Cal Poly. The course was centered around Regenerative ADU Design so the ECA process was designed to compliment this content.

Now let's dive into week 1 activities:

LOCAL CONSCIOUSNESS: Choose an Outdoor Location!

I believe my deep love for nature grew through being immersed in its wonder as a child and this love is what has inspired me to want to care for it. Being busy and often working indoors online, it is easy these days for me to be disconnected from what is happening in nature just a step outside my door. I have found that my consciousness grows through relationships and that by immersing myself in my surroundings I become more in tune with them. I found this definition of Consciousness in the Merriam Webster Dictionary resonant with the activities invited for this week of the challenge: "Consciousness: a) the quality or state of being aware especially of something within oneself. b) the state or fact of being conscious of an external object, state, or fact. c) awareness."

In the same way that many individual organisms fulfilling their roles creates a healthy ecosystem, each of us stepping into environmental consciousness and action with what we care about and are able to do in our own lives and communities, can create a healthy earth.
